I was on the highway, in fourth and fifth gear, I would floor the gas and the RPM's was shoot up to the rev limiter and the car would not move faster, infact it slowed down a little. I never noticed any smell from a burning clutch or anything, no rotten eggs smell. So, my recommendation would be to go on the highway where you are in 4th or 5th gear and punch the gas and watch your RPM's. If they jump VERY rapidly, then you need a new clutch.
